EcoInfluencers: Sustainability and Waste Awareness in Schools
In February 2025, Making Oceans Plastic Free e.V., together with our partners Yayasan Green Books Indonesia and Sungai Watch, will launch the EcoInfluencers program in Indonesia. Supported by the Postcode Lottery, the project empowers teachers and students to become ambassadors for sustainable living and plastic reduction.
Through interactive workshops, school activities, and practical solutions, participants learn how to avoid, separate, and recycle plastic waste. Each school will be equipped with waste stations, alternatives to single-use plastic such as reusable bottles and bags, and access to clean drinking water through classroom filters. Students will also visit river barriers that stop plastic pollution before it reaches the ocean and take part in creative school festivals to share their knowledge with parents and communities.
The program aims to reduce single-use plastic consumption in participating schools by up to 40%, directly benefiting more than 3,000 children and their families. By integrating the approach into school curricula and collaborating with local education authorities, the project will have a long-lasting impact far beyond its initial phase.
With EcoInfluencers, children and teachers become role models for change — inspiring their communities and protecting our oceans for future generations.
